Packers: 6 amazing stats about Aaron Jones’ huge night vs Lions
The Green Bay Packers got back on track in Week 2, as they hosted the Detroit Lions under the bright lights of Lambeau Field and Monday Night Football. Well, at least Aaron Jones and the offense did.
Green Bay used a huge second-half surge to score 21 unanswered points and defeat their division rival 35-17. And most of it came at the hands of the Packers’ lead running back. Jones rushed 17 times for 67 yards and one score. However, he hauled in all six of his targets for 48 yards and three more touchdowns. Here are six amazing stats about his big night.
Green Bay Packers’ running back Aaron Jones went bonkers against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Here are six stats you should know.
Jones’ four total touchdowns (three receiving and one rushing) tied the Lambeau Field record (one). That’s pretty impressive even if it has been done five other times. He also tied the Monday Night Football record with four total touchdowns–only matched by Marshall Faulk in 2000 (two).
Jones is no stranger to the endzone, scoring a combined 30 touchdowns over the last two years. However, most of his are normally of the rushing variety. Coming into Monday night, he only had six receiving touchdowns in his career, including a career-high of three in 2019. Needless to say, his three touchdown receiving performance was a career-high for one game (three). That also made him the first running back with three receiving touchdowns in one game since 2015 when Danny Woodhead accomplished the same feat for the San Diego Chargers (four).
As for Packers’ specific history, well, there’s plenty of that to go around as well. Don’t you worry.
Jones three touchdown catches marked the first time a running back has done so for Green Bay since 1942 when Andy Uram grabbed three against the Chicago Cardinals (five). His 67 rushing yards also catapulted him past Eddie Lacy for 10th all-time in Green Bay history (six). At 3,440 yards, he could move all the way up to fourth place by the time the season is over (Tony Canadeo currently sits there with 4,197 yards). He has a LONG ways to go to catch Ahman Green at the top (8,322 yards), however.
It’s clear Green Bay’s offense is at their best when Jones is involved in every aspect. He’s a dynamic playmaker who creates mismatches across the board. The only time they truly failed to move the ball against the Lions was when he wasn’t getting the rock. Feed this man and there could be more record-setting performances that lie ahead.
