Green Bay Packers: 11 Quick Observations from Bounce Back Win
By Paul Bretl
The Green Bay Packers trailed the Detroit Lions at halftime, 14 to 17, but controlled the second half and cruised to a 35 to 17 point win. The Packers now sit at 1-1 and on the season.
Now that I’ve had time to digest what we saw on Monday Night, let’s dive into my 11 quick observations from the Green Bay Packers performance.
Eric Stokes and Jon Runyan
Both players began the season as backups, but entering Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers, the two young players may be preferred starters.
While Lucas Patrick did clear concussion protocol, it was Runyan who got the start, and at least on the initial viewing, he held up quite well at left guard. When it comes to Stokes, the Packers moved King to the slot to get the rookie more playing time, and he did not disappoint, coming away with three pass breakups–two of which came on fourth downs.
Back to the basics
I wrote about it, and I know just about everyone else harped on it, but one of the major issues from Week 1 was the lack of a run game from this Green Bay Packers offense. Against New Orleans, Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon combined for only nine carries. However, that wasn’t the case this week.
Jones, Dillon, and Kylin Hill combined for 24 carries and 93 yards. This also goes to show that teams don’t have to be overly effective running the ball for the defense to respect it–they just need to believe that it’s a possibility.
