Although there is a game to still be played on Monday Nignt, the Green Bay Packers reportedly had a few players in for workouts. Most notably was former first round pick Taco Charlton, according to Tom Pelissero.

With Za’Darius Smith on IR for the time being, and at least outside of the building we have no idea when he will be back, the Packers depth at the edge rusher position is going to be tested in his absence.

The team will be relying on 2020 seventh round pick Jonathan Garvin and 2020 UDFAs Chauncey Rivers and LaDarius Hamilton to help pick up some of the slack.

Charlton was the 28th overall pick by Dallas in the 2017 draft. In a part time role with the Cowboys during his first two NFL seasons, Charlton would record 38 pressures, four sacks, and eight tackles for loss, according to PFF ($$).

The Dallas Cowboys would end up cutting Charlton at the beginning of the 2019 season, where he would then spend the rest of that year with Miami—appearing in 10 games and playing 396 snaps while recording 19 pressures and five sacks.

In 2020 with Kansas City, Charlton was on the field for only 90 total defensive snaps before fracturing his ankle. He was then cut by the Chiefs in late August of this year as part of cut downs when rosters had to be trimmed from 85 players down to 80.

As a former first round pick, Charlton’s career has not gone has hoped. But he is still just 26-years-old and for a Green Bay Packers defense that could use some added depth at edge, he would provide experience in a rotational role with over 1,300 NFL snaps, per PFF, and some potential upside.

In addition to Charlton, the Green Bay Packers also had in defensive lineman RJ McIntosh, linebacker Peter Kalambayi, edge rusher Shareef Miller, and edge rusher Tuzar Skipper in for workouts as well.
