The Milwaukee Bucks have made it clear who their head coach is for the foreseeable future, and for good reason. Tuesday night Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Bucks and head coach Mike Budenholzer agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep Budenholzer in Milwaukee through the 2024-2025 season. The numbers on how much coach Bud will make have yet to be released.

Budenholzer has been a fantastic regular season coach in his three years at the helm of the Milwaukee Bucks, as he has posted a regular-season record of 162-65, the best in the NBA over that span of time.

However, prior to the 2020-2021 season, the questions that surrounded Budenholzer have involved his success in the playoffs. In 2019, the Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff run ended abruptly after losing four straight games in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual champions, Toronto Raptors. Then in the bubble in 2020, the Bucks were a second-round exit at the hands of the Miami Heat.

But as we all know, the 2021 playoffs were a different story, as the Milwaukee Bucks were able to have a successful playoff run and captured their first NBA championship in 50 years. In a year where teams were decimated with injuries, Budenholzer’s ability to manage players’ minutes helped the Bucks be one of the more healthy teams in the playoffs. Milwaukee’s offense also looked overall more fluid than past Bucks playoff offenses.

All in all, this is a well-deserved extension for coach Budenholzer and a move that seemed inevitable after the Milwaukee Bucks’ Championship run considering that the 2021-2022 season was the final year of Bud’s original deal.

The Bucks now have coach Bud, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday under contract for the next several seasons.

Here’s to hoping the next three seasons can end in a similar fashion to this past year.
