Packers: Jordan Love in Full Pads at Practice, a Good Sign for Saturday
By Paul Bretl
Jordan Love’s highly anticipated preseason debut with the Green Bay Packers was unfortunately cut short after his throwing arm was hit from behind on a play in the second quarter that resulted in a fumble.
Love would not play in the second half after completing 12/17 passes for 122 yards with a touchdown and a passer rating of 110.4.
The following day, Adam Schefter reported that Love’s MRI came back clean; however, the team chose to take things very slowly with Love, ensuring that this minor setback didn’t become anything more.
"“I think he’s doing fine,” LaFleur said of Love last week via Sporting News. “[The injury is] something, though, that is significant enough where he could miss a couple days of practice. We’ll see where he’s at at the end of the week, but we’re going to kind of take it day to day.”"
Love would end up not participating in any team practices and spent portions of each practice working on his own in the Don Hutson Center. Truly unfortunate timing for a player that missed out on preseason games as a rookie and then missed out on two joint practices and a preseason game with the New York Jets last week with the shoulder injury.
"“He threw with our trainers every day,” LaFleur said on Sunday via Sports Illustrated. “It’s just trying to get the volume up, trying to get the velocity up (and the) distance just to see how he feels.”"
Some good news, however, came on Monday when Love was back practicing in what ended up being a light practice overall for the Green Bay Packers—although Love still didn’t participate in any team drills, just individual ones.
But more good news, Love must have been feeling good after Monday’s practice session because, on Tuesday, he was back in full-pads and participating in 11-on-11 drills.
This is what we were waiting for and is hopefully a good sign of what’s to come later this week, with the Packers taking on the Buffalo Bills in their third and final preseason game.
While only media members were in attendance, from the sounds of it, there was some rust for Love to shake off initially after missing team activities for a week, but he found his rhythm, and it doesn’t appear that his shoulder was an issue.
I imagine that the Green Bay Packers will continue to monitor him closely over the off day on Wednesday, and assuming there are no setbacks, we should see him again at Thursday’s practice and hopefully on the field Saturday in Buffalo.
Love has already missed out on some incredibly important snaps, so he needs to see as much live action against the Bills as he can get because, after Saturday, his only reps moving forward will come in practice.
