Green Bay Packers Trade 2019 6th Round CB Ka’dar Hollman
By Paul Bretl
As the Green Bay Packers continue to whittle their roster down from 85 players to 80, they have reportedly traded former 2019 sixth-round cornerback Ka’dar Hollman to the Houston Texans, according to Aaron Wilson.
At this time we do not know what the Green Bay Packers are receiving in return for Hollman, whether that be a player or a draft pick.
Admittedly, I was always a big fan of what Hollman could offer this defense under former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine with his athleticism and press-man experience from his days at Toledo. However, Hollman struggled to earn his way onto the field.
Hollman saw the bulk of his career playing time in 2020, which was only 108 total defensive snaps, and his numbers don’t look too bad as he allowed only six completions on 14 targets with one touchdown and one pass breakup—although those receptions went on average for nearly 17 yards per catch, according to PFF ($$).
However, as we all know, numbers don’t always tell the entire story. What does tell the story is the fact that Hollman was a healthy scratch at the end of last season and into the playoffs, meaning that not only did the Packers not believe that he could help on defense but also not on special teams either—a big no-no for any back-end of the roster player.
This preseason hasn’t gone much better for Hollman and in what has ended up being a crowded cornerback room, there really wasn’t a spot for him on the 53-man roster with Kabion Ento looking like the front-runner for the sixth cornerback role and the newly acquired Isaac Yiadom brining special teams help.
In addition to trading Hollman, the Green Bay Packers have also released Kamal Martin as well as Daniel Crawford. Depending on what they received in the Hollman trade, they now have to make two or three more cuts before Tuesday’s deadline to get to the 80 player maximum.
If the Packers didn’t receive a cornerback in return for Hollman, they will now have only seven corners on their roster.
