Last Tuesday the 17th, was the first round of cuts that needed to be made around the NFL as teams had to trim their rosters from 90 players down to 85 that day. For the Green Bay Packers, they would release Ryan Winslow, Jon Dietzen, and Zack Johnson while placing Isaac Nauta and DeAndre Thompkins on IR–effectively ending their seasons with the team.

Now, one week later, there are more cuts that have to be made. By 3:00 CST on Tuesday, August 24th, the Green Bay Packers, along with the rest of the NFL, have to take their roster from 85 players to 80. The third and final cutdown, which will bring rosters down to the maximum of 53 for the regular season, will then take place later next week.

Just as I did the first time around, I’ll make my prediction on which five players will be a part of this week’s cutdown. As we saw last week, IR could be utilized, but without knowing the severity of any of the injured players, I’m not going to make any guesses on that front.

So instead, I’ll consider what we’ve heard and seen throughout training camp and the preseason up to this point while also taking a look at which positions the Green Bay Packers could stand to lose a player or two.

JJ Molson – K

I listed JJ Molson last week, and I’m going to list him again for the same reason. We know that Mason Crosby is going to be the team’s kicker this season, so I just don’t see the value in going through training camp with a second kicker on the roster.

Maybe the Packers see value in keeping a second kicker on the practice squad, but from the outside looking in, I tend to disagree. Molson is 1/1 on extra-point attempts this preseason.
