Green Bay Packers: Notes from 10th Training Camp Practice
By Paul Bretl
The Green Bay Packers were back on Ray Nitschke Field today in front of fans for their 10th training camp practice of the summer.
In case you missed anything, here is a rundown of what took place from the reporters and media members that were present.
– Good news! Rashan Gary was back at practice today after missing Monday.
– Kevin King was off to the side working with the rehab group—another good sign. As was Will Redmond and Chris Blair.
– CB Stanford Samuels was also added to the injury list. Everyone else who has been on the list remained there—minus Gary, of course.
– In 1v1s, Innis Gaines comes up with an interception. Andy Herman of Packer report calls him “the best UDFA in camp so far.” Gaines would then make a diving pass breakup.
– Some more 1v1 results:
– Very tight coverage from Eric Stokes on Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but MVS goes up and makes the catch. We know Stokes is taking his lumps, but he’s had plenty of good reps as well.
– As Aaron Nagler of Cheesehead TV mentioned, you can expect to see AJ Dillon involved in the passing game this season.
– Elgton Jenkins wins back-to-back reps against Preston Smith.
– More 1v1 results:
– Ben Braden is the staring left guard with the 1s at the beginning of practice.
– Josiah Deguara was back on the field with the starters today working as the H-back.
– With Kenny Clark and Kingsley Keke out, TJ Slaton was with the starters. UDFA Jack Heflin was also taking reps with the 1s.
– Amari Rodgers was taking snaps out of the backfield. We’ve seen this on a few occasions so far.
– As Andy Herman said, Robert Tonyan catches everything. Going to be a big factor once again.
– Kylin Hill continues to impress and make plays. Quite the find in the seventh round. With Jones sidelined, Hill has been out there with the starters along with Dillon.
– As Aaron Nagler points out, today was the second day in a row that Jonathan Garvin was getting pass rush opportunities from inside—and from the sounds of it, he’s making the most of those chances.
– Edge rusher Chauncey Rivers, who was recently claimed off waivers, got to the quarterback for a would be sack with the second team.
– Ryan Wood of Packers News summed up Adrian Amos’ play by saying “Amos has been everywhere today.”
– Kylin Hill may be stealing the show, but don’t forget about Patrick Taylor either. He’s making some plays of his own.
– Josh Jackson needs to show something, but he loses a 1v1 rep to Devin Funchess in the red zone and it results in a touchdown.
– OLB coach Mike Smith spoke very highly of Tipa Galeai on Sunday, and today he was out with the starting defense during the 2 minute drill. He and Garvin are both sharing these reps with Ramsey out and Za’Darius Smith still on the NFI list.
– A few nice completions for Jordan Love during the 2 minute drill:
– The second team offense couldn’t find the end zone during the 2 minute drill, stalling at the 5 yard line.
– Rodgers tries to find MVS on a deep ball but guess who is there to knock it away? You guess it, Jaire Alexander.
