The Green Bay Packers‘ first preseason game is officially less than a week away, as they host the Houston Texans at 7 pm CT on Aug. 14. Before we look ahead, let’s take a look back at the first two weeks of training camp.

Green Bay has almost had two weeks of training camp plus an abbreviated scrimmage at Family Night to give fans and reporters an idea about how things could play out before the regular season. To be clear: there are still a lot of changes that could happen. However, these three players have been pleasant surprises to begin training camp.

3. De’Vondre Campbell

The Packers haven’t put much stock into the inside linebacker position in recent years, usually cycling between cheap mid-to-late round draft picks and a random veteran looking for a prove-it deal. The latter rings true for De’Vondre Campbell who was a late signing this offseason.

However, Campbell appears to be outplaying his veteran free agent predecessor–Christian Kirksey–and is off to a great start in training camp. He’s earned the praise of head coach Matt LaFleur and has a good chance to be the every-down starter. We’ll see how this plays out with second-year pros Kamal Martin and Krys Barnes chomping at the bit behind him.
