The Green Bay Packers are kicking off training camp on Wednesday with the surprise and welcomed (at least by the players) return of Aaron Rodgers. Despite the summer-long drama surrounding the star quarterback, fringe roster candidates won’t have any time to waste googling the MVP, as the team will have to get right down to making decisions about the roster.

NFL teams are permitted to open training camps with a 90-man roster, something the Packers have been flirting with via a flurry of roster moves in recent days. New to this year are five cuts that must come by the middle of August.

The Packers–and the rest of the league–must have their roster down to 85 players by August 17. That only gives the players three weeks and one preseason game to make their mark on the front office. Unfortunately, some player’s future might already be written in stone, as these three players are surefire cuts either at or before that first August deadline.

These three members of the Green Bay Packers are locks to get cut from the roster on or before the first deadline of August 17.

3. Chris Blair, Wide Receiver

The competition for the last wide receiver spot just became a lot more difficult, if not downright impossible. It was reported by Trey Wingo that one of Aaron Rodgers’ concessions was for Green Bay to re-acquire Randall Cobb. And the team appears to have done just that.

With Cobb’s return to Green Bay, the wide receiver positions are all but locked up–Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers are all locks. IF they keep a sixth wide receiver (they only kept five last year) it will likely come down to Equanimous St. Brown and Devin Funchess with Malik Taylor having an outside shot due to his special teams’ prowess.

That means the rest of the guys are on the outside looking in with little chance to make a run at a roster spot. Sorry, Chris Blair, but one of the Packers’ first cuts will most definitely come from your position.
