Packers: 3 bold predictions for Aaron Rodgers’ 2021 NFL Season
It appears the Green Bay Packers have a lot to work out with Aaron Rodgers before the reigning MVP agrees to return to the football field again. Although there wasn’t one issue that really peeved Rodgers, it was more a straw that broke the camel’s back type situation with the Packers’ new front office flirting with the devil for a few years now.
The Packers have a talented roster despite Rodgers, but they’re built to win now, and losing their best player would eliminate them from the shortlist of legitimate Super Bowl Contenders. Head coach Matt LaFleur wants Rodgers back “in the worst way” and has shown him that he can both win in the current offense and rack up huge numbers.
We’ve already made predictions for a number of his primary weapons in running backs Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon, and wide receivers Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. With a lot of off-the-field issues yet to be worked out, let’s move on and make three bold predictions about what Rodgers’ 2021 season will hold.
With all of the drama surrounding the Green Bay Packers and reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers, let’s make three bold predictions about the 2021 season.
3. Rodgers will play all 17 games in a green and gold uniform.
Let’s get this out of the way: There’s no way the Packers will trade Rodgers. Green Bay’s salary cap situation is an absolute mess because they are focused on winning the Super Bowl as soon as possible. If Rodgers walks out that door there will be a bunch more moves to follow. The Packers also hold the upper hand as they still have Rodgers under contract for three more years. At 37-years-old, time is extremely precious and he’s not able to just sit out valuable games at this stage in his career. Rodgers may not like it, but he’ll return in time to play all 17 games of the regular season in the green and gold uniform.
2. Rodgers will throw for 40 or more touchdown passes.
For just the second time in his career, Rodgers threw more than 40 touchdown passes in 2020 when he went for a career-high 48. He owes a large part of that to LaFleur for designing an offense that maximizes the talent of the skill players, keeps Rodgers upright more often, and creates easy reads and open receivers. None of that will change in 2021. Rodgers should be in for another monster year, as Green Bay only added more weapons and another year of cohesion with everyone returning.
1. Rodgers will complete greater than 70 percent of his passes again.
Rodgers not only threw for a boatload of touchdowns, but he also completed a ton of passes–a career-high 70.7 percent. This was the first time in his career he’s completed more than 70 percent and look for him to do it again next season. There are plenty of dump-offs, crossers and other high-percentage completions in LaFleur’s offense that are designed to get the ball into the hands of the Packers’ athletes as soon as possible. Rodgers will continue to take advantage of this and will find his man at least seven out of 10 times.
