Chandon Sullivan entered the 2021 offseason as a Restricted Free Agent (RFA), and it was unknown whether or not the Green Bay Packers would tender him a contract for the upcoming season. Well, they did, placing the right of first refusal tender on Sullivan about a month ago.

Basically, what that means is that if another team offered Sullivan a contract, the Packers would have the opportunity to match it. However, if Green Bay chose not to, then they wouldn’t receive any sort of compensation for Sullivan leaving. This tender in 2021 comes with a $2.133 million contract.

That was a month ago, and as of today, that tender has now been signed, officially keeping Sullivan in Green Bay for the 2021 season.

This will be Sullivan’s third season with the Green Bay Packers after being the team’s primary nickel corner in 2020. To sum up Sullivan’s season, it was okay, I suppose. In fact, PFF ($$) would call it average, but it certainly came with some bumps in the road.

When it was all said and done, Sullivan allowed a completion rate of 65 percent on 77 targets and 11.8 yards per catch. He came away with an interception, four pass breakups, and a passer rating when targeted or 91.3.

During the playoffs, Sullivan was a frequent target of Jared Goff and Tom Brady, although, to his credit, he did bounce back in the second half of the NFC Championship Game after a rough start. And for the season, he would finish top-15 among slot corners in snaps per target and snaps per reception.

We know that upgrading the boundary cornerback position — both for 2021 and for the future — will be at the top of the to-do list in this year’s draft, but don’t rule out Green Bay adding some competition inside for Sullivan either.

We may also see more of Darnell Savage in the slot this season as well as Jaire Alexander, who in the Joe Barry defense will move around much more like Jalen Ramsey did for the Los Angeles Rams.

For now, we will have to wait and see how the draft plays out as well as training camp and what this new defense looks like exactly. But for the time being, it would appear that Sullivan will be taking plenty of snaps from the slot once again in 2021.
