Milwaukee Bucks Reportedly Add Jeff Teague to the Mix
By Paul Bretl
The trade deadline has passed, but contending teams are still looking to make additions through the NBA’s buyout market. And the Milwaukee Bucks are no different, as they are reportedly adding point guard Jeff Teague to the mix.
This isn’t the first time, however, that the Bucks have tried to sign Teague. If you recall, in 2013, Teague signed an offer sheet with Milwaukee for a four-year deal worth $32 million, but Atlanta matched the offer, and Teague stayed with the Hawks.
That 2013-2014 season coincidentally was also Mike Budenholzer’s first season as the head coach in Atlanta. Teague spent three seasons under Budenholzer, averaging 30.4 minutes per game and shooting 44.5 percent overall, 36.1 percent from deep, and 84.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Teague also tallied 16 points per game with 6.5 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals while being named to the All-Star team during the 2014-2015 season.
However — and to be expected — this Jeff Teague is not the player that the Milwaukee Bucks are signing. Teague spent this season with the Boston Celtics before being traded to Orlando as part of the Evan Fournier deal where he was then waived.
In 34 games with Boston, Teague shot 41.5 percent overall and an impressive 46.4 percent from 3–although that was only on 1.6 attempts per game. This resulted in 6.9 points per game along with 1.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 18.1 minutes per contest.
The addition of Teague will provide the Milwaukee Bucks with some much-needed point guard depth as the only true point guard on the roster prior to this signing was Jrue Holiday. It also doesn’t hurt that he is familiar with Budenholzer’s system and has plenty of playoff experience with 71 career games.
At this time, what Teague’s usage will look like or where he will exactly fit into the rotations remains to be seen.
The Milwaukee Bucks still have one roster spot available, and another name to watch is Austin Rivers—someone that the Bucks have been linked to in recent weeks. So far, Milwaukee has turned DJ Augustin, DJ Wilson, and Torrey Craig into PJ Tucker, Jeff Teague, and potentially Austin Rivers.
