The Green Bay Packers have made a flurry of moves in recent days, both in an effort to get under the salary cap but also with keeping a key component of their offense with the Aaron Jones signing.

As far as where they exactly stand at this time with the cap, that’s a bit of an unknown given we don’t know how much of Billy Turner’s deal is going to be restructured, and reportedly Za’Darius Smith will be receiving an extension, however, that is yet to have officially taken place.

In this unusual offseason, there have already been several surprises from the Green Bay Packers, but one move that everyone is expecting is that Davante Adams will receive an extension. The question was more when will it happen, and not if it will happen.

Well, today we gained some clarity as Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on the Wendy’s Big Show that an extension for Adams is in the works, and fans “should expect something done in the next week or two.”

Adams is entering the final year of his contract and comes with a massive cap hit of $16.7 million. By converting a portion of his $12 million base salary to a signing bonus, Green Bay can sprinkle that cap hit over the life of the deal — which will now include additional years — thus freeing up cap space in 2021. And oh yeah, they get to keep Adams in town beyond 2021.

I say this move was expected because it was an easy decision to make. Adams has developed into what many would consider the best receiver in the game with a release off the line of scrimmage that is unmatched.

Despite missing two games last season, Adams still led the NFL in touchdown receptions with 18 while also recording 115 receptions, nearly 1,400 yards, a career-best catch rate of 77.2 percent, and a league-best 98.1 receiving yards per game.

As a result, he was named a first-team All-Pro, and to put it simply, he and Aaron Rodgers were nearly unstoppable.

For now, we will wait and see when this move becomes official and just how much cap space in 2021 is unlocked. But with this news, along with Smith receiving his extension, the only other major cap-saving move out there for the Green Bay Packers is a restructure for Rodgers–but we will see what comes of that.
