As we should have anticipated all week long, the Green Bay Packers saved their roster moves for Friday afternoon. After just learning that Tim Boyle would not be tendered, making him an unrestricted free agent, it was then reported that Adrian Amos would be restructuring his deal.

This, of course, was a move that was made to help get Green Bay closer to the salary cap. Coming into today, they were still about $9.6 million over the $182.5 million cap, according to Over the Cap.

Per Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, the Packers converted Amos’ $1.5 million roster bonus to a signing bonus, allowing them to lower his 2021 cap hit by $750,000 and moving the remaining $750,000 to 2022.

Prior to this move, Amos’ cap hit next season was $10.6 million and will be increasing by that pro-rated $750,000 amount from the signing bonus.

Amos is coming off a career year with the Green Bay Packers, where he and Darnell Savage formed the best safety duo in the NFL over the second half of the season.

According to Pro Football Focus ($), Amos was their second highest-graded safety and tallied three pressures, just 7.9 yards per catch on 54 targets with seven pass breakups and three interceptions. Opposing quarterbacks also had a passer rating of only 79.0 when targeting him.

This move does help the Green Bay Packers’ cap situation a little, but there is still plenty of work to be done. They have until next Wednesday when the new league year begins to be under the $182.5 million figure.

Some other moves that may be coming include extensions for Za’Darius Smith and Davante Adams. The restructuring of Aaron Rodgers’ contract and perhaps some veteran cuts or pay cuts as well.
