Wisconsin Football: 3-Star 2022 QB Myles Burkett Commits to Badgers
By Paul Bretl
At the time, the Wisconsin Football set a program record, with the 2020 class holding the highest ranking in school history during the online era at 26th. However, that was short-lived as the 2021 class, led by 5-star recruit Nolan Rucci and five other 4-star recruits, ranked 16th in the nation.
The incoming 2022 class is certainly going to have big shoes to fill — rankings wise that is — but the good news is that over the weekend, the Badgers received their first commitment from that class–well, second if you count Braelon Allen, who reclassified to 2021.
Quarterback Myles Burkett from Franklin, Wisconsin announced his commitment to play for the Wisconsin Football program on Saturday.
Burkett is a 3-star quarterback, according to 247Sports, and clocks in at 6’2″ – 205 pounds. 247Sports also has him rated as the 17th best pro-style quarterback in the 2022 class. Wisconsin was Burkett’s only Power 5 offer, but in addition to the Badgers, he had offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Miami of Ohio.
As a sophomore in 2019, Burkett threw for 1,824 yards with a very good completion rate of nearly 71 percent. He also tallied 24 touchdowns to only five interceptions and added another 539 yards and five scores on the ground.
This past year in what was a shortened season due to the coronavirus pandemic, Burkett totaled 1,236 passing yards with 11 touchdowns, five interceptions, and 207 rushing yards with a score in six games.
When it came to making the decision to stay home and play for the Badgers, as Burkett told Badger247 prior to his announcement, that it was a fairly easy one:
"“I knew if I ever got an offer from Wisconsin, I was going to take it.”"
For a closer look at Burkett’s game, here is what Alan Trieu, a national scout for 247Sports, had to say about the 3-star quarterback–you can find the rest of Trieu’s analysis here ($).
"“He is a smooth passer who is a natural. His motion is fluid and easy, and he throws with good accuracy and anticipation. He shows he can make throws to all different parts of the field and can do that on the move.He is a solid athlete who can escape pressure and get into position to make those throws on the run.”"
Over the last few years under Coach Paul Chryst, the Wisconsin Football program has been a riser on the recruiting trail, and oftentimes that success begins with landing top in-state recruits. In addition to Burkett, a few other recruits from the state of Wisconsin in the 2022 class that the Badgers will hope to land include Joe Brunner (OT), Billy Schrauth (OT), Carson Hinzman (OG), and Isaac Hamm (DE).
