The Green Bay Packers have reportedly signed veteran tackle Jared Veldheer for their playoff push.

This is a move that many Green Bay Packers fans — including myself — wanted to see take place back over the summer, and now, it’s happened. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers have signed Jared Veldheer.

As Schefter points out, this is a unique signing given that Veldheer just played on Saturday for the Indianapolis Colts, and he will become the first player in NFL history to play for two different teams in the same postseason.

Like last year, Veldheer spent much of this year unsigned before being signed to the Colts’ practice squad at the end of December. He was quickly elevated to the active roster and took 76 pass-blocking snaps at left tackle between Week 17 and the Wildcard Round for Indianapolis. He didn’t allow a sack but was credited with six pressures and a penalty, according to Pro Football Focus.

If you recall last season, Veldheer made a similar appearance with the Green Bay Packers filling in for Bryan Bulaga at right tackle. Against Detroit in Week 17 and Seattle in the Divisional Round, Veldheer didn’t give up a sack, or a pressure, and he wasn’t called for a single penalty.

With David Bakhtiari out for the season, the addition of Veldheer provides the Packers with some much-needed depth at the tackle position where they do not have much experience on the roster after Billy Turner and Rick Wagner.

I wouldn’t expect Veldheer to start by any means, but if an injury occurs, Green Bay has a pretty good insurance policy coming off the bench.
