The Green Bay Packers have reportedly claimed DT Snacks Harrison off of waivers.

Well, Green Bay Packers fans, it actually happened. As reported by Alber Breer, the Packers claimed the recently released Snacks Harrison off waivers.

Before the season even began, Green Bay has been linked to Harrison and even offered him a contract, as reported by Ross Uglem of Packer Report. However, to put it simply, Harrison wasn’t that interested in coming to Green Bay.

Instead, he was signed to the Seattle practice squad about halfway through the season. Snacks would make his debut in Week 10, totaling 138 snaps over the next six games with nine tackles and a forced fumble.

After being listed as inactive for the Seahawks’ Week 16 matchup with the Rams, Harrison asked to be released, and Seattle obliged.

In his prime, Harrison was one of the best run defenders in the NFL, finishing as the best interior defensive linemen in Pro Football Focus’ Run Stop Percentage metric — which measures the rate at which a player makes a stop or a play for a loss against the run — each year from 2014 to 2018.

While in 2019, he wasn’t as dominant, Harrison still finished 11th in that category.

This is a Green Bay Packers team that has many questions surrounding their run defense, although they have been trending in the right direction the last month and a half and are coming off a very impressive performance against Tennessee. However, there is no such thing as too much help in the trenches.

With all of that said, expectations shouldn’t be that Harrison is going to step on the field and dominate; truthfully he just isn’t the same player that he used to be. But perhaps in a rotational role, and on a snap count, he can still find some of that past success and provide the defense with a boost.

With the one seed within their grasp and the playoffs right around the corner, GM Brian Gutekunst makes a last-minute addition. Now let’s see if it pays off.
