The Milwaukee Bucks selected Jordan Nwora and Sam Merrill in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. Let’s take a look at these prospects!

The big headlines for the Milwaukee Bucks happened before the 2020 NBA draft. GM Jon Horst decided that it was important for this team to go all in, we all know this was done in hopes to keep the great Giannis Antetokounmpo. We will have to see how that pans out in the near future, in this article, I will take a brief look at the players the Milwaukee Bucks selected in the 2020 NBA Draft.

With the 45th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select:

PF. Louisville. Jordan Nwora. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 89. 45

Jordan Nwora is the first pick of the night that the Bucks made that will actually end up in Milwaukee. Nowra had limited playing time his freshman year at Louisville, however, during his sophomore and junior seasons he saw much more playing time. With that increase, Nwora was able to showcase his scoring ability. According to Sports Reference, he put up 17 and 18 points per game in the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons, respectively.

Perhaps the most exciting part about the pick is his shooting ability. Throughout his career at Louisville, Nwora was able to put up some great shooting numbers. In the 2019/2020 season, Nwora shot 44 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from three point range, and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line. On top of the shooting numbers, he is a capable rebounder averaging 7.65 total rebounds in his final two years at Louisville. All of these numbers should be exciting for Bucks fans.

With the 60th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select:

SG. Sam Merrill. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 89. Utah State. 60

The Bucks did not actually make this pick due to the rules regarding trading draft picks in the NBA. They will be receiving Sam Merrill the shooting guard from Utah State from the New Orleans Pelicans. This pick combined with what we saw with the 45th overall pick tells us that Jon Horst is looking to add shooting around his superstar. Merill shot the ball very well in his four-year career at Utah State. His career averages are fantastic, 47 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range, and 89 percent from the charity stripe. One thing about that three-point percentage is that he took 5.8 shots/game over his career from deep, that number was closer to 6.5 during his last three years at Utah State.

Clearly, Jon Horst was ensuring that the shooting around Antetokounmpo got better based on these two draft picks as well as the moves that were made prior to the draft. These picks are important for a few reasons. Draft picks are always fun for us as fans, it is very easy to get excited about the players that are drafted. This is also very important for this Milwaukee Bucks team that is right up against the cap. Second-round picks are cheaper contracts than veteran minimum contracts as mentioned by Kane Pitman on Twitter.

Going all-in means that the Bucks do not have the money to make more moves to get proven players, that is why these draft picks are important. IF the Bucks can get contributions from one or both of these players in 2020/2021 it will help this team so much as the Bucks have sacrificed their depth to make one of the best starting fives in the association (depending on what happens with Bogdan Bogdanovic).
