It was just reported that the Green Bay Packers and David Bakhtiari agreed to a four-year contract extension late Saturday night.

While the Green Bay Packers were trying to put the Jacksonville Jaguars away in the fourth quarter on Sunday, it was reported by Pro Football Talk that around midnight on Saturday, the Packers came to an agreement with All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari on a four-year contract extension.

We would learn shortly after from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the deal is worth up to $105.5 million and makes Bakhtiari the highest paid tackle in the NFL with an average annual value of $23 million and potentially it could be as high as $23. 5 million per year. And to put it simply, he’s worth every penny.

In 188 pass-blocking attempts this season – excluding the Jacksonville game – Bakhtiari is yet to allow a sack or a quarterback hit and has surrendered just five total pressures. And by ESPN’s pass-block win rate metric which measures how often a player can hold his block for at least 2.5 seconds, Bakhtiari ranks fifth out of all tackles.

This is the standard that he’s set over the years. Bakhtiari is a four-time All-Pro and over the previous four seasons which has spanned 2,850 pass-blocking snaps, Bakhtiari has given up just 11 sacks. He plays one of the most important positions in the game and for several years he’s been one of, if not the best at it.

The Green Bay Packers have several high-profile free agents to address during the 2021 offseason, but they’ve now secured their top two with contract extensions for Kenny Clark and David Bakhtiari. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for Corey Linsley, Aaron Jones, Kevin King, and Jamaal Williams, but the Packers have locked up the most important two of the bunch.
