This game was too close for comfort but the Green Bay Packers did come away with the win. Here are the instant takeaways and a few highlights from their performance.

Yikes. This game was way closer than what it should have been. The Green Bay Packers are clearly the more talented team, however, sloppy, lackluster play made this game competitive. The only positive takeaway from this game may be that the Packers won, but in the end, that is all that matters.

As always, I have my instant takeaways from Green Bay’s performance along with a few highlights sprinkled in.

  • The rain stopped but the wind was still blowing 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40. However, it didn’t seem to affect the passing game too much.
  • What do you know, more three-man rushes from Mike Pettine in the red zone.
  • James Robinson has been one of the few bright spots on this Jaguars team this season and the Green Bay Packers’ run defense let him do whatever he wanted.
  • On this fourth quarter TD, Rodgers and Adams both sold this play-action beautifully.

  • Speaking of the run game, Preston Smith was just not good in contain. The Jaguars had a lot of success running at him.
  • When you have turnovers, allow a special teams touchdown, have no juice, and several penalties, that’s the perfect recipe for letting a bad team hang around.
  • The Packers didn’t do a very good job of pressuring the rookie QB. For much of the day, Luton was unphased, except on the final drive where it mattered most.
  • Green Bay has struggled to force turnovers this season, but they had their third today in the last two games. Amazing what can happen when you pressure the quarterback.
  • For the first time this season, the Packers didn’t score on their opening drive.
  • The Green Bay special teams unit has been solid for the most part this season, but today, well, today was not good at all.
  • This was also an uncharacteristic performance for Davante Adams. He had two dropped passes and a fumble. But of course, he comes back with a beautiful touchdown grab in the fourth quarter as mentioned above.
  • For all the ups and downs Marquez Valdes-Scantling has had, that long TD pass is why you keep going back to him. He had a nice all around game as well.

  • Just a guess here, but I think we saw more five wide receiver sets today than what we’ve seen all season.
  • It was tough sledding on the ground for the Packer running backs. Credit to the Jaguars’ defensive front.
  • The Rodgers-Tonyan connection on the deep ball has been just slightly off all season long.
  • For the most part, D.J. Chark was held in check.
  • Another game where overall there was a “lack of energy.” This is becoming a problem.
  • And more missed tackles.
  • Andy Herman of Packer Report said it best today, so I’ll just post his tweet below:
  • 7-2. The Green Bay Packers will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts next week.
