The Wisconsin Football program’s 2021 class received another big boost as WR Markus Allen announced his commitment on Friday.

Wisconsin Football’s 2021 recruiting class was already on pace to the best in program history during the online rankings era, but on Friday they received another major boost as wide receiver Markus Allen announced his commitment on Twitter.

Allen had previously commited to Michigan back in April of this year before deciding to decommit in September. Allen told Badger247 that once his decommitment announcement was made, Wisconsin and Alvis Whitted, the Badger wide receiver coach, ramped up their recruitment:

"“They’re recruiting me heavy,” Allen said in Septemebr. “They feel like I’m a fit for Wisconsin. He likes how I’m a big-body receiver, I can make tough catches, I go up and get the ball. He likes how I’m a playmaker. I can get the ball anywhere and turn it into a touchdown and or a big gain.”"

Depending on where you look, Allen is a 4-star recruit at Rivals and a highly-rated 3-star recruit by 247Sports. Out of Clayton, Ohio, Allen is a big-bodied receiver, listed at 6’2″ -190 pounds, and he is the 51st ranked wide receiver in the 2021 class according to 247Sports.

He has put together two monster seasons, including 51 receptions for 1,099 yards and 15 touchdowns over 11 games in 2019. He would then follow that performance up with 60 receptions in eight games this season, totaling 844 yards and 14 touchdowns.

So as you can imagine, Allen had plenty of offers, at least 26 if you’re counting at home. Some of which included Boston College, Iowa State, the aforementioned Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia, and Purdue among others. He also recently received some attention from Ohio State. However, thankfully for us Badger fans, it was Wisconsin that Allen thought was the best fit for him.

For a closer look at Allen’s game, here is what 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst, Allen Trieu has to say:

"“Good overall size and length. Solid bulk and build to him already in high school. Will be a big, physical college receiver. Smooth and has good ball skills. Tracks it well in the air and will use his size to go up and win contested passes. Will adjust well to passes and shows good body control. No verified speed as far as a laser time or a track time. Can still get more straight-line explosive. Projects safely as a red-zone guy and productive short to intermediate receiver. Upside is higher especially if he is able to get to another gear top-end wise.”"

Currently, the Badgers’ 2021 recruiting class is ranked 16th in the nation, which as I mentioned above, is on pace to shatter the previous program ranking of 26th by the 2020 class. Allen is the second receiver commit in this class, joining Skyler Bell, and these two additions illustrate the excellent job that Whitted has done on the recruiting trail since taking over as receivers coach back in the Spring.
