Green Bay Packers at 49ers: Instant Takeaways & Highlights
By Paul Bretl
The Green Bay Packers roll in Santa Clara, here are the instant takeaways from their performance, along with some highlights as well.
Twice last season the San Francisco 49ers dismantled the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium, so understandably, there was some concern entering Thursday night’s matchup. However, this time around, the Niners were ravaged by injuries and it was the Packers who dominated.
Sure, given that this was San Francisco’s JV squad on the field, this win doesn’t have the same feeling as it would have if they were fully healthy. But the Packers can only play who is in front of them and they did exactly what they need to do in this situation; win convincingly.
As always, I have my instant reactions from Green Bay’s performance along with some highlights sprinkled in.
- We didn’t know how much of Aaron Jones we were going to see, but he was featured much more than what I expected.
- And speaking of Jones, this offense is so much better when he’s on the field.
- As I mentioned above, this was an undermanned Niners team, but the Packers dominated this game just like they should have. There was no question that they were the more talented team.
- The ‘MVS Experience’ is a very real thing. Just when we’ve lost all hope, he sucks us right back in. Overall a nice game for No. 83.
- We saw more shuffling on the offensive line with an injury to Rick Wagner, but regardless of who is lined up and where, this Packer OL unit continues to play very well.
- The Green Bay Packers have now scored on their opening drive all eight games this season.
- Davante Adams is a cheat code. It’s just not fair, folks.
- A very nice game for Darnell Savage. This is the player we expected to see this season.
- The Packers didn’t fill up the stat sheet with sacks, but we saw why OLB Coach Mike Smith puts an emphasis on pressures. The Green Bay defensive front made Nick Mullens uncomfortable for much of the night.
- Lucas Patrick continues to have a very nice season at RG.
- Goodness, the play design on that TD pass to Marcedes Lewis was a thing of beauty. At least three Niner players had their eyes locked on MVS.
- The Packers’ bye is already behind them, but with all these injuries piling up, this is as good of a time as any for a mini-bye.
- We saw MUCH better tackling from the defense tonight.
- And the same could be said for Preston Smith as well. His pressure forced the Raven Greene interception.
- Turnovers? THE DEFENSE FORCED TWO TURNOVERS!

- Moving forward, let’s get Tyler Ervin more involved in the passing game, please.
- Another excellent performance for Aaron Rodgers. Plenty of quick and on-time passes, but he knew when to challenge downfield. A very efficient and well played evening for QB1.
- 6-2. The Jacksonville Jaguars come to Lambeau Field next.
