Green Bay Packers Reportedly Split on Will Fuller Trade
By Paul Bretl
Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that the Green Bay Packers are split on whether or not to trade for wide receiver Will Fuller.
The NFL trade deadline is now just hours away, and over the last handful of days, there have been several reports stating that the Green Bay Packers are quite interested in Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller. Fuller is in the midst of a career year and would be an immediate upgrade as a deep threat over Marquez Valdes-Scantling as well as a very good option from the slot.
However, despite Green Bay’s obvious interest in the former first-round pick, Dianna Russini of ESPN recently reported that the Packers are split on whether or not to acquire Fuller at Houston’s asking price, which of a second-round pick.
So what does that mean? Well, my guess is that Matt LaFleur wants Fuller to upgrade the wide receiver position, while Brian Gutekunst doesn’t want to give up a second-round pick. Meanwhile, Russ Ball is worried about Green Bay’s cap situation, especially with several high profile free agents to tend to in 2021 along with possibly a shrinking salary cap as well.
And not to go all conspiracy theory here, but you also have to wonder if this information was leaked by the Packers to force Houston into accepting their trade offer. When it comes to NFL organizations, Green Bay is as tight-lipped as they come and if someone from within did release this information, perhaps it was done intentionally.
It’s going to be an interesting final two hours before the deadline arrives, but by all accounts, the Green Bay Packers are still trying to acquire Will Fuller to provide a boost to the receiver room and to the offense.
