The Green Bay Packers bounce back with a win over Houston, here are your instant takeaways from their performance.

After how last week played out, the Green Bay Packers needed a big bounce-back game, and goodness, did they get one. The defense kicked it up a notch, the offense was tough to stop, and Green Bay rolled to a relatively easy win.

As always here are my instant takeaways from what was a fairly dominant Packers’ performance.

  • There is certainly no replacing Aaron Jones, but Jamaal Williams did a fine job both in the running and passing game.
  • A good rule of thumb, attack each day with even half the enthusiasm that Jamaal Williams does.

  • Another injury that the Green Bay Packers had to overcome was David Bakhtiari’s, and once again, while there is no replacing Bak, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well Billy Turner played. Turner had a rough showing in Tampa Bay at right tackle last week but handled his left tackle responsibilities quite well.
  • The same goes for the rest of the Green Bay Packers offensive line. A nice bounce-back week all around.
  • Congrats to Malik Taylor on his first career NFL touchdown!

  • After being bullied last week, the Packers’ offense was in rhythm, had a good run/pass balance, and there were plenty of easy throws for Aaron Rodgers to take advantage of, for the most part.
  • Oh, and Matt LaFleur’s play-calling was excellent as well. Back to what we saw during the first four games this season.
  • Speaking of play calling, we saw a more aggressive Mike Pettine this week as well. Dialing up a number of blitzes and most importantly, trusting his cornerbacks.
  • The Green Bay Packers ranked 31st in pressure rate this season, but had an excellent showing today, putting consistent pressure on Deshaun Watson.

  • And although Preston Smith didn’t fill the stat sheet by any means, this was easily his best performance of the season. Including a huge stop on 4th down.
  • Chandon Sullivan is a PLAYER. He continues to build off his excellent 2019 season.
  • We saw Josh Jackson making another tackle behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Montravius Adams continues to flash as well. On a limited snap count, he’s starting to string together some plays.
  • Sheesh! What a throw and catch.

  • With Darnell Savage out, Raven Greene was all over the place. Let’s hope his injury isn’t too serious.
  • In his NFL debut, we saw Kamal Martin make some noise in the run game today.
  • Another big day for Jaire Alexander, who kept Will Fuller in check.
  • The Houston Texans, and specifically Randall Cobb, were able to carve up the middle of this Packers’ defense.
  • How about that Davante Adams guy? My goodness, what a game. 13 receptions for 196 yards, and two touchdowns.

  • The Green Bay Packers’ offense converted 7 of their 12 third-down attempts. That’ll do.
  • At some point, the Packers’ bad turnover luck has to turn around. There were a few opportunities today for interceptions that they weren’t able to come away with.
