With injuries and a difficult four-game stretch ahead, the Green Bay Packers’ bye week may be coming at just the right time.

We are only four games into the demanding 16 game NFL season, but the Green Bay Packers find themselves drawing an early bye week this year. Typically, teams would prefer their bye to come more towards the middle of the season when injuries may be piling up and as an opportunity for some much-needed time off.

However, while I originally would have preferred a later bye week as well, this time off early in the season may be coming at the perfect time for Green Bay.

For one, it gives them the opportunity to get healthy. Although at this point, they have only two major losses this season in Josiah Deguara and Lane Taylor, the injury report for Monday’s game was about a mile long.

Key players such as Davante Adams, Kenny Clark, Christian Kirksey, Rashan Gary, Allen Lazard, and Marcedes Lewis all missed the Atlanta game. Meanwhile, Jaire Alexander, Elgton Jenkins, Corey Linsley, Tyler Ervin, and Za’Darius Smith all found themselves on the injury report last week.

Not to mention that Chandon Sullivan and Kevin King both left Monday’s game with injuries.

That’s certainly quite a few important players that are either fighting through injuries or the Green Bay Packers are currently without. This two week break will afford them the chance to get healthy and injury-wise, this could be a revitalized team entering Week 5.

This bye week also gives the Packers the opportunity to prepare for what could be their toughest four-game stretch of the season. After the bye, Green Bay will head to Tampa Bay and then to Houston on back-to-back weeks. They then come home for a divisional game with Minnesota before facing a quick turnaround to take on San Francisco on Thursday night.

Now, I know that Tampa hasn’t been as dominant as some expected, while Minnesota and Houston have just one combined win, and the Niners are beaten up right now. However, this is still the NFL; those are three road games in four weeks – with one being a Thursday night road game – and these are talented teams that shouldn’t be taken lightly regardless of their record.

There’s no doubt about it, the Green Bay Packers are rolling right now, and although a later bye week initially may seem more ideal, this year’s bye may be coming at just the right time given the injuries and upcoming schedule ahead.
