It’s been reported that Damon “Snacks” Harrison will be visiting with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday.

The Green Bay Packers’ run defense was exposed in 2019, and after not making any offseason additions, we are seeing similar performances this year, especially with Kenny Clark sidelined. Their saving grace has been the Packer offense giving them multiple score leads to work with, which forces the opponent to pass the ball rather than run.

Yet the stats still show a unit that is struggling mightily as they are allowing 5.38 yards per rush this season, the fifth-highest average in the NFL.

However, during the Packers game last night, we learned some interesting news as Josina Anderson reported that Damon “Snacks” Harrison would be visiting Green Bay on Wednesday after meeting with Seattle on Tuesday.

For a number of years now, Harrison has been one of the league’s top run stuffers, which is exactly what this defense needs, even when Clark eventually returns. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) has a metric called Run Stop Percentage, which quanitfies how often a player makes a “stop” against the run. And for those wondering, a “stop” is a play that ends in a loss for the offense.

Well, during the 2013 season, Snacks had the second-highest run stop percentage in football among defensive linemen, then from 2014 through 2018, he ranked first in that same category. Although 2019 wasn’t up to Harrison’s lofty standards, he still finished 11th out of all interior defensive linemen that season.

At 31-years-old, Harrison may not be the same player that he was a few years ago, but he’s made 62 starts in 64 games over the last four seasons, and in a rotational role with Green Bay, he can still certainly be effective.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that Ross Uglem of Packer Report reported over the summer that the Packers have already offered Snacks a contract, but he chose to remain a free agent. Also, keep in mind that Harrison may sign with Seattle on Tuesday and never make it to Green Bay; however, let’s hope that isn’t the case.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen Kingsley Keke start to make some more plays, Montravius Adams has flashed as well, and Clark should be back soon, but adding Snacks Harrison to the mix would be a welcomed boost.

So let’s kick back and see how these next few days play out.
