The best and worst-case scenarios for every Green Bay Packers’ player series is almost over, and it continues today with the safeties.

Like the EDGE position, the Green Bay Packers had a weakness in 2018, which they attacked hard last offseason, bringing in Adrian Amos as a free agent and trading up for Darnell Savage in the first round of the NFL Draft. Those additions worked well, and the back of the Packers defense was in good hands with those two on the field last season.

Still, they struggled with depth last year, and after Amos and Savage, the talent dropped off. This opens up possible roster spots for the few newcomer safeties this season. Vernon Scott and Henry Black will both try to come in and grab spots on the 53-man roster by the end of camp.

The safety position for the Green Bay Packers isn’t just the two-deep guys, though. With how often they play nickel and dime defenses, nickel being five defensive backs on the field and dime being six, a third safety that plays in the box is a starting spot. Last season, Raven Greene started at that spot until he was hurt in week two, and then it was mostly taken over by Ibraheim Campbell, who isn’t on the team anymore. Greene will come into camp as the probable starter, but others could compete.

If you’ve read the other best and worst-case scenario articles, you know the players are always put into categories, so it’s easy to understand where they stand. The three categories of these safeties are the two starters last year, Savage and Amos, the other returners, Raven Greene and Will Redmond, and the rookies, Vernon Scott and Henry Black.
