The Wisconsin Football program’s already stout 2021 class lands their first wide receiver commit, in 3-star Skyler Bell from Connecticut.

As good as the Wisconsin Football program’s 2020 class is, from a recruiting standpoint, the 2021 class appears even better. The group currently ranks 17th in the nation, which would be a program-best, and they have five 4-star commitments, which ties a program record set by the 2020 class.

However, what this class didn’t have was a receiver. Well, that was until Sunday morning.

A few weeks back, 3-star wide receiver, Skyler Bell announced a commitment date for Sunday the 16th. His final five schools included Wisconsin, Iowa, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech, with 247Sports’ Crystal Ball Predictions selecting the Hawkeyes as the landing spot for Bell.

But to the pleasure of the Wisconsin faithful, that wasn’t the case.

Bell clocks in at 6’1″ – 185 pounds and is 247Sports 118th ranked receiver in the 2021 class and the fifth rated receiver in the state of Connecticut. During his junior season, Bell would post 36 receptions for 549 yards, at an impressive 15.3 yards per catch, with eight touchdowns. On top of that, he had two kick returns as well.

In an article by Evan Flood of Badger247, he noted that Wisconsin wide receiver’s coach Alvis Whitted made landing Bell a top priority over the last few months and Bell’s high school coach, Tyler Whitley shared why they were so persistent:

"“They saw that explosiveness, they saw that athleticism that he had. Once they got to know who Skyler was as a person and as a student, they saw he was really the full package,” Whitley stated. “He’s a super kid. He’s going to do everything the right way. After watching his film, they saw what his future holds. He’s super explosive, can play inside, play outside, and make the big plays.“They were looking for that big play receiver, a guy with an extra gear. They think Skyler can provide that.”"

The Badgers’ 2021 class continues to get even better and has the potential to be the best in program history. As I’ve already mentioned, they are currently ranked 17th nationally, along with being ranked third in the Big Ten with 16 hard commitments.

Bell will be joining a Badger team with several other young and talented receivers already on campus in A.J. Abbott, Stephan Bracey, and Chimere Dike.
