As reported by Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Green Bay Packers have brought in WR Malik Turner for a visit.

As Green Bay Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunst told reporters earlier this week, even with Devin Funchess opting out and the concern that many outside of the organization have about the wide receiver position in Titletown, he doesn’t feel any added pressure to address the position before the season begins.

However, just because Gutey doesn’t feel any more pressure, that doesn’t mean that he won’t look to add someone to the mix.

And as it just so happens, it was recently reported by Rob Demovsky of ESPN, that on Friday, the Packers had brought in Malik Turner for a visit. Now, how that was done exactly with the coronavirus protocols, I’m not sure, but obviously, Green Bay is interested in the third-year receiver.

Undrafted out of Illinois, Turner appeared in 40 games during his college career, totaling 1,804 yards, including a career-best 712 during his junior season, while also adding 10 career touchdown receptions.

He has spent his first two seasons in Seattle, where he was used sparingly as a rookie and spent most of the year on the practice squad. But he did play a bigger role this past season.

Although he played in only 22 percent of Seattle’s total snaps in 2019, Turner was targeted 22 times, hauling in 15 for receptions at an impressive 16.3 yards per catch with one touchdown. However, it is worth noting that even in that small sample size, he was still credited with four drops.

What could make Turner appealing to Green Bay is that he made an unexpected jump between his first and second NFL seasons, and at only 24-years-old, there is still room for growth. Not to mention that he’s shown an ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, averaging 7.0 yards after the catch in 2019. And as we all saw last season, this is an area that this Packers’ offense needs to improve upon.

If the  Green Bay Packers were to sign Turner, you have to think his chances of making the final roster are still slim, but he can provide them some upside at a position with some unknowns and Green Bay could likely stash him on the practice squad if needed.

The way I see it, there is no such thing as too much competition, and who doesn’t love upside, so why not?
