Green Bay Packers: 5 Free Agent Additions That Still Make Sense
By Paul Bretl
Any one of these five remaining free agents could help give the Green Bay Packers a boost in 2020 without breaking the bank either.
Compared to the last offseason, this year’s free agency period for the Green Bay Packers was much less exciting. To put it simply, Green Bay just didn’t have the same spendable cap space in 2020 and that reflected in their free-agent additions.
Instead of landing high-profile players, they went bargain hunting and signed free agents who have all had past success in the NFL, but they are coming off down or injury-riddled 2019 seasons. Thus not giving us any sort of certainty when it comes to what we will see from them in 2020.
So couple that with a draft that left many fans and NFL analysts scratching their heads, and you have a Green Bay Packers team that many are down on. Despite going 13-3 last season, they oftentimes didn’t look like a 13 win team and after this offseason, it’s fair to wonder if the Packers did in fact improve.
In order for Green Bay to get over that hump and hopefully make another Super Bowl push in 2020, they are going to need several of their young players to take a step forward. This group includes Rashan Gary, Jace Sternberger, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Darnell Savage, and others.
However, when it comes to young players, their growth is never linear. It comes with ups and downs. So if the Packers want to add a proven veteran to the mix before the season begins to help provide some stability, there are currently five free agents still available that could give them a boost and that won’t break the bank either.
Let’s take a peek at who these players are. A few of them are some very familiar names.
