This offseason the Green Bay Packers added Kirksey, Wagner, and Funchess via free agency. Here is one big question that each player must answer in 2020.

After a number of years of having Ted Thompson as GM of the Green Bay Packers, the 2019 offseason was certainly an unusual one for fans. But in a good way. We saw current GM Brian Gutekunst make four big free agent signings that totaled $182 million in contracts.

However, this past offseason was different and Gutey told us it was going to be this way. Big-spending in 2019, coupled with the Packers having five high-profile free agents of their own in 2021 to deal with, meant that there just wasn’t much spendable cap space.

But as always, there were still needs that had to be filled.

This meant that Gutey and the Green Bay Packers went bargain hunting in free agency, signing Christian Kirksey, Rick Wagner, and Devin Funchess. All of which have had success in the NFL, but not so much recently. Especially in 2019.

While the Green Bay Packers were able to go 13-3 and reach the NFC Championship Game in 2019, there are many that doubt whether or not they have enough fire-power on the roster to get over the hump and bring the Lombardi Trophy back home.

And in order to do so, they’ll need the offense to make that Year 2 leap in the Matt LaFleur system, several key second and third-year players will have to take that step forward, and of course, this year’s free-agent group will have to perform.

With that said, that is far from a given as each player is going to have to bounce-back from their down and/or injury-filled 2019 seasons. So as we take a closer look and get to know some of the newest members of this Green Bay Packers team, Kirksey, Wagner, and Funchess all have one big question that they are going to have to answer in 2020 if they are going to find success once again.
