Kamal Martin – LB

It’s not often that NFL teams or their fans should expect immediate contributions from a fifth-round pick, and of course that may not happen with linebacker Kamal Martin. But I certainly think there is the possibility given the state of the Green Bay Packers’ linebacker position and Martin’s skill-set.

With Blake Martinez is now in New York, in his place will be Chrisitan Kirksey who was signed early on in free agency. However, it’s worth noting that Kirksey has played in just nine games the past two seasons and behind him on the depth chart we don’t really know what we are going to get. This opens the door for Martin to see some playing time.

Martin is an experienced player out of Minnesota who can provide help against the run and also the pass. Something that Green Bay hasn’t really had in recent years at the linebacker position.

Martin has good speed, he can drop back quickly, and he’s versatile having played multiple positions last season, including on the line, in the box, at free safety, and in even in the slot. Not to mention that he is also a solid tackler.

As a rookie it’s fair to expect some ups and downs this season, but if Martin can show something this summer, with his coverage ability as well as what he can provide as a run defender, he could be in line for some meaningful snaps in 2020 and give the middle of this defense a boost.
