Green Bay Packers: 5 Question Marks Still Remain After Offseason
By Paul Bretl
Defensive Tackle
The Green Bay Packers defense was much improved overall in 2019, but their run defense – particularly between the tackles – was far from good. While their performance in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers is what most will remember, stopping the run was an issue for much of the season.
Dean Lowry is the second option inside next to Kenny Clark but he still comes with his limitations and would perhaps be better suited as the third player within the rotation. Meanwhile, Montravius Adams hasn’t panned out, Tyler Lancaster is fine, and we still don’t fully know what the Packers have in Kingsley Keke, although I am excited to see him get more reps in 2020.
Prior to the draft, the Packers would claim Gerald Willis and Jamal Davis off waivers from the Miami Dolphins, however, both second-year players rarely saw the field in 2019. Then just recently they would add Treyvon Hester to the mix who has bounced around his first few seasons as another rotational player.
Sure they have more bodies, but how much have they actually improved their run defense this offseason? Ultimately we won’t know until the season takes place but at this moment, I’m not sure that they did.
