It was recently reported that the Green Bay Packers have added DL Treyvon Hester to their 90-man roster.

Earlier this week the Green Bay Packers had cut quarterback Manny Wilkins which put them at 89 players on the roster, meaning they had room to make another addition. While many had hoped that Tramon Williams, Snacks Harrison, or Taylor Gabriel would fill that spot, it was just reported that the Packers signed Treyvon Hester to help beef up the interior of the defensive line.

It’s no secret that of the needs that Green Bay had to address this offseason, the interior defensive line was a major one. Last season they would give up 120.1 rushing yards per game which ranked 23rd in the NFL and frankly that number was skewed a bit low due to some decent performances at the end of the season.

For much of the year they were ranked in the 25 to 28 range. And of course, we all remember how ugly the NFC Championship Game was.

Enter Hester who was selected by the Oakland Raiders in Round 7 of the 2017 NFL Draft and since then he has appeared in 31 games, including two starts, with Oakland, Philadelphia, and Washington.

During that span, he has totaled two sacks, 40 total tackles, four of which were for a loss, along with eight quarterback hits.

And although Hester may not be a well-known name among the Packer faithful, he should be an instant fan-favorite as he was the player that got his hand on the field goal attempt of former Chicago Bears’ kicker Cody Parkey in the 2018 playoffs.

While the receiver and linebacker positions grabbed much of the attention this offseason, if the Green Bay Packers are going to make another Super Bowl push, their run defense has to improve and that means getting Kenny Clark some help inside.

Hester has been a solid rotational player over his career, he brings a nice skill-set to this Packers defensive line, and he is another player to add to the mix this summer as Green Bay looks to improve their run defense.
