With the NFL schedule set to be released, let’s take a brief look ahead to the Green Bay Packers’ opponents in 2020.

Thursday evening – as in tomorrow depending on when you’re reading this – the NFL is going to release the 2020 schedules for all 32 teams. So while we wait to see when the Green Bay Packers will face each of their opponents, we already know who and where they will be playing this upcoming season.

Of course, this is a Packers team coming off of 13-3 season in which they made it to the NFC Championship game so they will have to endure a first-place schedule this season. And as you can imagine, it comes with several difficult matchups outside of the division.

Although plenty will change between now and Week 1 for both the Packers and their opponents, let’s take a sneak peek at who they will be up against in 2020.

Chicago Bears

After a disappointing 2019 season, the Chicago Bears have themselves a quarterback competition after acquiring Nick Foles from the Jacksonville Jaguars. As always their defense should be quite stout but who knows what we will see from the offense?

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have had a fairly busy offseason as they extended Kirk Cousins’ contract, lost a number of contributors from the 2019 team. Most notably Stefon Diggs, along with Trae Waynes, Everson Griffen, and a few others. However, they did cap it off with a very solid draft. Now we have to wait and see how many of those rookies can step in and be impact players right away.

Detroit Lions

Once again the Detroit Lions are still trying to figure things out as they had a lot of roster turnover this offseason. They like the Vikings had a nice draft but at least at this point, it’s difficult to see them competing for the NFC North.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons still have Julio Jones at receiver along with Matt Ryan under center but this is a defense that gave up a lot of points in 2019. Not to mention that they appear to be stuck between rebuilding and trying to compete. At Lambeau, this is a game that the Green Bay Packers should win. Especially if it takes place later on in the season when it is cold.

Carolina Panthers

Last season the Panthers nearly pulled off the upset at Lambeau Field and armed with Christian McCaffrey, a beefed-up defense, and now Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, they should once again be a formidable opponent.

Jacksonville Jaguars

After making it to the AFC Championship game just a few seasons ago, the Jaguars have since moved on from many of the players that get them there. To put it simply, this should be an easy win for the Packers.

Tennessee Titans

Derrick Henry carried the Titans all the way to the AFC Championship game last season and him up against the Packers’ run defense is a scary thought, to say the least. Aaron Rodgers and the offense will have to have long sustained drives to keep the ball away from Henry and the defense will have to try to put the game in Ryan Tannehill’s hands.

Philadelphia Eagles

Another rematch at Lambeau Field from a season ago and another one that is going to be difficult even with the home-field advantage. Regardless of who is under center or who the Eagles’ quarterback has to throw to that day, with Doug Pederson as the head coach, Philly is never out of it.

at New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been one of the top teams in the NFC for several seasons now and in a very tough road environment, this is likely going to be a crucial game for the Green Bay Packers when it comes to playoff seeding.

at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Well, we didn’t think we would see it again unless it was in a Super Bowl, but we have another Aaron Rodgers verse Tom Brady matchup to enjoy in 2020. Under Bruce Ariens in 2019, the Bucs took a step forward despite the inconsistent quarterback play and they look poised to make another jump with the additions of Brady and Rob Gronkowski to this offense.

at Houston Texans

The talent is certainly there for the Houston Texans and they should be a playoff team once again, however, they never seem to quite put it all together. But regardless, with Deshaun Watson as the quarterback, they are always going to be a difficult matchup.

at Indianapolis Colts

Phillip Rivers is now the quarterback in Indianapolis, but it’s worth pointing out that in the final year – or maybe two – of his career, he does not look like the Rivers of old. However, this is a rushing offense that will cause the Packers problems if they haven’t improved from last season.

at San Francisco 49ers

Yes, unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers will be traveling west to Santa Clara once again. And I can’t say I’m too thrilled about it. To top it off, this offseason the 49ers would add Javon Kinlaw and Brandon Aiyuk in Round 1 of the draft while also acquiring Trent Williams from Washington. At least on paper, they look even better in 2020.
