As we begin to look ahead to the 2020 season, when it comes to the Green Bay Packers receiving corps we can’t forget about Equanimeous St. Brown.

There’s no real way to sugar coat it, outside of Davante Adams and the emergence of Allen Lazard, the performance from the Green Bay Packers’ receiving corps in 2019 was underwhelming, to say the least.

Geronimo Allison struggled with drops and frankly just wasn’t that dynamic with the ball in his hands. Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s snap count decreased as the season went on and Jake Kumerow still didn’t see consistent playing time.

While it can be certainly be argued that the receiver position should have been priority No. 1 this offseason, in the eyes of many fans, the Packers just didn’t address it sufficiently.

In free agency Green Bay would add Devin Funchess but with a career that has been plagued by drops and a 2019 season that was spent primarily on IR, we really can’t bank on him having a bounce-back season. And then, of course, many are still infuriated that in a loaded draft class, Green Bay didn’t come away with a single receiver.

Now as we look ahead to the upcoming season, there are still some question marks around the receiver position – although I believe they are in better shape than most – but one player who is already on the roster that can’t be forgotten about is third-year player, Equanimeous St. Brown.

As you all will remember, St. Brown was placed on IR before the 2019 season even began and he was coming off of a rookie season where he made some noise.

During the 2018 season. St. Brown would appear in 12 games and haul in 21 receptions for 328 yards at 15.6 yards per catch. This includes two games of 89 and 94 yards, respectively, along with five receptions of at least 20 yards.

While St. Brown would line up out-wide on 253 of his snaps, he also took an additional 99 in the slot. And at 6’5″ – 214 pounds, he could give the Green Bay Packers that big slot presence that they wanted Allison to fill last season. Not to mention that as Ben Fennell points out, he is a solid route runner:

And take it as you will but Aaron Rodgers has spoken highly of St. Brown in the past. Which for any young receiver in Green Bay, it’s always good to be on QB1’s radar. Here is what Rodgers had to say about EQ last preseason:

"“Almost quietly, I think EQ has had a really nice camp,” Rodgers said Monday. “I think he’s been very consistent. We haven’t talked about him a lot, which, in this case, is actually a positive. It’s almost like, ‘Yeah, well, he’s on the squad.’ He’s been that good. It’s almost been an understated, really solid camp for him.”"

Now, should we expect St. Brown to step in and revitalize this passing game on his own? Not at all. However, he is another player to add to the mix in 2020 that found success during his rookie season, has Rodgers’ attention, and he is someone who will give this Green Bay Packers’ an element in the slot that they didn’t consistently have last season.

So as the title says, don’t forget about Equanimeous St. Brown in 2020.
