Green Bay Packers: Favre thinks Rodgers will Finish Career Elsewhere
By Paul Bretl
Brett Favre went on the Rich Eisen Show and gave his thoughts on the Green Bay Packers’ and Aaron Rodgers’ relationship moving forward.
It’s not an NFL offseason without some drama and speculation surrounding the Green Bay Packers. And of course, recently it has been centered around Aaron Rodgers’ future with the team after the Packers decided to select Jordan Love in Round 1 of the NFL Draft.
Now, with Love needing time to develop and Rodgers’ contract, he isn’t going anywhere for at least two seasons and likely a third. But nonetheless in the past few days many have speculated as to whether or not Rodgers and Green Bay are destined for a messy breakup.
And the most recent individual to give his two cents on the matter is former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, who experienced a fairly similar situation 15 years ago.
Favre would appear on the Rich Eisen Show Wednesday afternoon and said that he had talked to Aaron about the decision to draft Love and had this to say:
"“I’m not going to talk about all that we talked,” Favre said. “He was, let’s just say surprised, they went that direction.”"
Favre would also add:
"“He has every right to be disappointed, if he is,” and that “I think they burned a bridge that’s going to be hard to overcome. At some point it will rear it’s ugly head.”"
Ultimately Favre was asked whether or not he thought that Rodgers would finish his career with the Green Bay Packers and before Eisen could even finish his sentence, Favre jumped in:
"“I think that Aaron will finish somewhere else, that’s my gut.” He then followed that statement up with, “guarantee you it’s got he wheels turning in Aaron’s mind. If that’s the case it means there’s a chip on his shoulder toward the organization that was not there.”"
Up to this point, we have heard everyone’s opinion on the matter, except for Rodgers. Now, he and Favre are good friends, but it’s still fair to question whether or not this is what is actually going through Rodgers’ head, or is Favre just giving his thoughts on the matter?
Also, Rodgers potentially ending his career elsewhere isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Even before the addition of Love, it was always a possibility. In today’s NFL players very rarely spend an entire career in one place. I mean, Favre is a prime example of this along with Peyton Manning and now Tom Brady.
However, the one thing we do know is that all of this is just speculation until we hear it from Rodgers himself – which we won’t – and I’ll say it once more for the people in the back, Rodgers isn’t going anywhere for a few more seasons at least.
If anything this once again sheds light on the fact that Rodgers is nearing the end of his career in Green Bay and we don’t know how the relationship between him and the Green Bay Packers is going to end. But for now, despite all of the outside noise, it should be business as usual in Titletown.
