Green Bay Packers Claim 2 Defensive Linemen Off Waivers
By Paul Bretl
It was recently reported by Tom Pelissero that the Green Bay Packers have claimed Gerald Willis and Jamal Davis off waivers.
While many of us are focused on which needs the Green Bay Packers should address in the draft, it was just reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network that the Packers have claimed defensive tackle Gerald Willis and defensive end Jamal Davis off waivers.
It’s no secret that of the needs the Packers have to take care of this offseason, the defensive line is one of them. Although as a whole the defensive unit was much improved last year with the additions of Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Adrian Amos, they still struggled to stop the run. Particularly between the tackles.
Both Willis (out of Miami) and Davis (out of Akron) were rookies last season and spent some time with the Dolphins, among other teams, before they were ultimately cut by Miami just a few days ago. Neither would experience much playing time in 2019 either.
With Tyler Lancaster having his limitations, Montravius Adams not finding success like the Packers had hoped, and with Kingsley Keke still a bit of an unknown, bringing in Willis and Davis will provide some added competition at a position of need.
At this point, expectations should be low, as both players are inexperienced and haven’t found success at the NFL level. In fact, neither player may end up making the 53-man roster come September. And by no means should this impact whether or not the Packers address the defensive line position in the draft.
While giving the passing game a boost at receiver and adding some speed to the linebacker position are perceived as the biggest needs that the Green Bay Packers have, finding Kenny Clark some help inside is high up on the to-do list as well.
Let’s see what kind, if any, impact Gerald Willis and Jamal Davis can make in Green Bay.
