Green Bay Packers: 5 Bold Predictions for 2020 NFL Draft
5. The Packers will draft at least one player at each of these positions: TE, RB, QB, WR, OT, DL and DB.
Green Bay entered the offseason with some pretty clear needs at positions such as offensive tackle, wide receiver and defensive line, among others. And after free agency is mostly wrapped up, they haven’t really checked anything off the list. It’s fortunate Gutekunst has 10 selections to work with, as he has a lot of work to do to fill the margins of this team.
As it stands, tight end and wide receiver are woefully inadequate to give Aaron Rodgers the help he needs. The Packers only proven commodity at those positions is Davante Adams and even he can’t do it alone. It would be a mistake to rely heavily on the likes of second-year pro Jace Sternberger, Marcedes Lewis, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the passing game.
At positions like running back, offensive tackle and defensive back, the Packers may be okay in 2020, but will need help shortly thereafter. Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and Kevin King are all free agents in 2021 and the Packers will be unlikely to keep them all. Adding a future replacement and immediate depth is a must.
