The Green Bay Packers could draft Aaron Rodgers’ successor in this year’s NFL Draft by targeting these three quarterbacks.

The Green Bay Packers are in a tough position in this year’s NFL Draft. They have their clear starter at quarterback–two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers–and will at least for a couple more years. However, as Rodgers’ age is inclining (36-years-old), his game has been declining even if he’s still a top 10 quarterback in the NFL.

On the other hand, the Packers were one game away from reaching the Super Bowl last season and have a couple of clear holes on their roster. General manager Brian Gutekunst could stand for upgrading his defensive line, defensive backs, middle linebacker, offensive tackles, and wide receiver.

Way back in 2005, it worked well for the Packers to draft a quarterback early. Rodgers slipped from a potential top pick in that year’s class all the way to number 24 where Green Bay was happily waiting for him. Could they have that same success this year? Let’s check out three quarterbacks they could target.

3. Jalen Hurts

It certainly wouldn’t take a first round pick to snag this college stud, but it would take an early selection–likely in the second or third round. If Hurts does fall all the way to the third round, the Packers could jump all over him after addressing two other needs in the first couple of selections.

Hurts is a dual-threat quarterback who had big-time success at both Alabama and Oklahoma. He showed nice improvement on his deep-ball last season and does fine in the short and intermediate games. He isn’t great at play recognition and tends to rely on his feet too often instead of looking downfield. If he can improve in those areas, he could become a starting-caliber player in his career.

2. Jake Fromm

Perhaps a safe pick in this year’s draft, Jake Fromm doesn’t have as high of a ceiling as other quarterbacks, but he doesn’t bring a low floor either. He’s a game-manager prospect who takes what defenses give him and won’t always make the spectacular play. He has a ton of experience at Georgia and shows an ability to read coverages. However, he’ll need good skill players around him to be successful at the next level–something the Packers don’t have; not yet at least.

1. Jordan Love

The big name associated with the Packers in this year’s quarterback class, the Packers would have to use their first-round pick on Love if they want to acquire his services. Of course, there’s no guarantee Love will make it anywhere near the Packers, as it would take a Rodgers-esque fall for this potential top-10 pick.

Next. Packers: Trade up, trade back or stay put?. dark

Love wasn’t as good as he could’ve been in 2019, making it difficult for teams to evaluate what they’re truly getting with this selection. He showed decreased accuracy and the ability to diagnosis coverages last season. However, he has the arm strength, size and mobility to make it as an NFL quarterback. It could be the perfect scenario for him to sit for a couple of seasons while improving his fundamentals.
