MEDAL RESULT | Biggest Disappointment

Travis Shaw

Jesus Aguilar

Corbin Burnes

Every season there are guys who are expected to contribute similarly or more than they did last year and fail to do so. Corbin Burnes was inserted into the starting rotation after an electric postseason out of the bullpen. He has now given up three home runs in four outings and cannot seem to keep the ball in the yard. He still has top-of-the-line stuff and shouldn’t be given up on yet as he is only 24 years old, but so far he has not lived up to the big expectations that were on him going into 2019.

Travis Shaw and Jesus Aguilar were both big reasons why the 2018 Milwaukee Brewers went so far in the playoffs. Both with OPS over .800 last season, their numbers have taken big dives in 2019. The only thing keeping Aguilar out of the gold spot is that he has started to figure things out lately and gotten his batting average back over the Mendoza Line at .202. His OPS is still only .624, but he is starting to show some flashes of 2018 Jesus Aguilar.

Shaw has been grinding at the plate all season. He started slow and has not seen much success. He had a short spurt of success, hitting three home runs in two games after Christian Yelich used his alien powers and signed his bat. Since then, it has looked even uglier for Shaw. His swing has looked very defensive and he is not attacking the ball like he did the past two seasons for this team. His misfortune continued last week when he went on the 10-day Injured List with a wrist injury. Let’s hope this is a blessing in disguise for Shaw as it could be a way to reset and get back to form.
