Quarterbacks (2)

Aaron Rodgers and DeShone Kizer

Last year we saw the Green Bay Packers carry three quarterbacks for the entire season, however, this year I am expecting them to carry only two, just as they had for many years in the past.

I know there is a segment of the fan base that would rather see Tim Boyle backing up Aaron Rodgers, and not DeShone Kizer but I just don’t see the Packers parting ways with him at this point.

Yes, it was ugly when he came in against the Chicago Bears, and he didn’t score any points against the Detroit Lions in week 17, but Green Bay is going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Kizer is still just 23-years-old and will be on his third offensive system in three years. He has a lot of growing to do and maybe coach LaFleur will help move his development along.

Given the Green Bay Packers need for depth at other positions, I thought that they only needed to carry two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster this year. It is not often that the caliber of a third-string quarterback is that much different from what can be found in free agency or on the practice squad, so I see it as an unnecessary use of a roster spot.
