1. ILB Ahmad Thomas

Thomas’ name being called out for cuts was shocking to say the least after an impressive preseason. The former safety out of Oklahoma recorded nine tackles and seemed to fit the mold of the hybrid linebacker makeup the team tends to favor.

Thomas was signed to the practice squad late last season and expected to compete for the 53-man roster in 2018. New defensive coordinator Mike Pettine spoke highly of Thomas even calling him an “explosive athlete.” He fit the mold of the sub-package linebacker than can remain comfortable when dropping back in coverage.

When the Packers traded for Indianapolis Colts linebacker Antonio Morrison last week it was the first implication they wanted more from their current group of inside linebackers. Morrison, a two-year veteran, has far fewer risks attached to him having played in 31 career games.

Thomas a raw but profound athlete will have to wait a little longer for his first NFL appearance, but make no mistake, it is bound to happen.
