The Green Bay Packers have had some breakout players during training camp and the preseason. Some others have not been as fortunate thus far.

The Green Bay Packers headed into the offseason with a lot of question marks. General manager Brian Gutekunst was an unproven commodity taking over for Ted Thompson. The defense had yet to come together since their magical run to the Super Bowl, so Dom Capers was let go. Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were aging with expensive contracts. Players needed to step up or step aside if this team was going to contend again with Aaron Rodgers at the helm.

Some players were a dying breed, and they needed a good offseason to escape cuts. Others were heading into contract years, that needed to make the argument they deserved to be extended.

Certain players just simply needed to play well to make it to the final roster. There were some players that had great offseasons, but there were many players who just didn’t get it. With multiple deep position battles, the competition is fierce out there.

Players with good offseasons will come later, but it’s time to discuss the other guys. Those players that failed to meet expectations, let themselves down or just didn’t quite make the cut compared to others. While these players may escape final roster cuts alive, that doesn’t mean they had a successful offseason. The Packers had some decisions to make. These players made those choices much easier.
