4. Brett Hundley vs. DeShone Kizer

Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer are locked in the battle for the number two quarterback job. The coaches have said they’re going to evenly split the snaps. It’s very possible that the Packers are only going to carry two quarterbacks this season. After trading for Kizer this offseason, one would presume that he has the inside track on the job. However, the Packers could decide to keep a third quarterback after last season’s woes. While Hundley let them down, he could earn a backup role.

Hundley struggled through nine starts last season. He never looked comfortable. Through 11 total games, he threw only nine touchdowns vs 12 interceptions. He was sacked 29 times. While some can be attributed to offensive line struggles, he had a tendency to hold the ball far too long. Thursday will be huge for him. If he doesn’t show significant progress, he could ultimately cost himself a spot with the Packers.

Kizer comes with a ton of intrigue. He came out of college with a ton of potential, but he had an up and down career at Notre Dame. He struggled last season with a total of 31 interceptions and fumbles. However, he had games last season, including against the Packers, where he flashed the potential the Cleveland Browns were hoping for. While he may never reach his ceiling, he has a much higher floor than Hundley.
