In terms of experimenting with Jonathan Villar, the Milwaukee Brewers have already begun. The casualty of these trials has been Scooter Gennett.

Coming off a season in which he was regulated to a strict platoon, struggled and sent down to AAA, Gennett has enjoyed a nice bounce back season.

More from Milwaukee Brewers

Despite this resurgence, the Brewers have decided to take a look at Jonathan Villar’s fit at second base. Unfortunately for Gennett, this has to be a signal that the end is near in Milwaukee.

According to Baseball Reference, Gennett is only signed through this year and is set to become a free agent.

This may have not been the case if it weren’t for the success of Hernan Perez. Because of Perez’s breakthrough the team now has an option at third base for next year.

If Stearns and Counsell don’t feel comfortable leaving Villar at third, then it will surely be Perez sliding in and Villar moving to second. This makes sense in terms of freeing up an additional outfield spot for one of the up an coming prospects.
