The Green Bay Packers have a number of interesting roster decisions to make over the next two weeks, with Bleacher Report recently taking the time to make a prediction at corner. The piece takes a look at one player each team in the league should cut, pointing to Carrington Valentine as Green Bay's most sensible cut. The logic offered is that the additions of Benjamin St-Juste and Brandon Cisse have left the Packers a clear chance to turn the page on the defender. It is hard to fault this after the season that Valentine put together in 2025.
Looking back, a passer rating of 109.4 was the result when the defensive back was targeted with zero interceptions and struggles when the Packers needed the young defender most. Add in the fact that Valentine hasn't been consistently healthy throughout camp, and Green Bay has to at least consider the potential cut.
With that said, the flip side of this is pointing out Valentine is still on a rookie deal that is incredibly affordable and offered a productive rookie season. At a position that has dealt with a myriad of injuries, it makes sense to keep Valentine as depth and a special teams piece, even if the results haven't lived up to expectations.
Packers Predicted to Cut Carrington Valentine Ahead of 2026 Season
Valentine was a 7th round selection back in 2023 and has had an up-and-down tenure, but one that offers a level of experience. If we are looking at the current roster, there is no debate that the biggest question mark defensively is how the secondary is going to fare early in the year and whether the needed pieces are in place.
While the pass rush is facing similar questions, this is offset by the fact that Micah Parsons will return at some point in the upcoming season. Corner doesn't have this level of stardom or stability, making it clear that cutting cheap and experienced depth could prove to be a mistake for a well run organization.
Cutting Valentine would require the Packers to have a great deal of confidence in their starting lineup and for surprise depth to emerge. Looking at the current camp options, it is difficult to see this currently rostered.
While the logic of cutting Valentine is understandable, it does seem incredibly unlikely as things currently stand. The Packers should keep the current stability that experience that Valentine offers, understanding that perhaps the corner returns to form or at worst, offers starting experience that can be leaned on in a pinch.
