Every year, MLB Trade Rumors makes predictions about the MLB’s top 50 free agents. These predictions include the players, teams and contracts they’ll sign. This year, the Milwaukee Brewers are mentioned with three separate players.

The Brewers still have work to do with their managing staff before they can look into signing players. Craig Counsell surprisingly left for the Chicago Cubs, and now Milwaukee is scrambling to find a new manager (why they’re only starting the process now when they knew Counsell could leave is beyond me).

However, as they hone in on a new manager, let’s allow our eyes to wander to some key free agents whom Milwaukee could be interested in.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Milwaukee Brewers are predicted to sign these three free agents to lucrative contracts this offseason.

Whit Merrifield, 2B/OF

Merrifield has the versatility Milwaukee likes in their players. He can play either second base or either corner outfield position. He made the All-Star game last year and is a great contact hitter, something Milwaukee definitely needs more of. He’s led the American League in hits on two separate occasions.

He’ll be 35 years old before next season begins, which could be a concern for some teams. However, there is very little depth for middle infielders in this year’s free agent class. MLB Trade Rumors is predicting a two-year, $18 million deal for Merrifield and mentioned Milwaukee as one of the teams who could be interested.

Brandon Belt, 1B/LF

Belt would fill a massive hole the Brewers have at first base, while also giving them some flexibility to play left field. He’s not a full-time player at this point in his career, and could be one half of a platoon that only hits against righties. He had a bounceback year in 2023, recouping some of his lost value from previous years.

He will also be 35 at the start of next season, turning 36 less than a month into it. Due to this, his contract predictions stands at one year and $15 million, with one of their writers predicting the Brewers will sign him.

Luis Severino, SP

If the Brewers want to add a starting pitcher, Luis Severino could be their man. He has a history of being an elite pitcher, but injuries have sapped his stock in recent years. There are a lot of red flags with his recent performances as well, but he could be a high-upside signing for a team like the Brewers to take a risk on.

Severino is predicted to receive a one-year, $14 million contract with Milwaukee predicted as one of those suitors.
