Bucks Film Room Podcast: Drop Coverage, Giannis and Defense
The Milwaukee Bucks had a roller coaster of a week, sandwiching an embarrassing loss to the Toronto Raptors with two victories over last year’s playoff teams in the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks.
It’s clear the Bucks are still working out the kinks and adjusting to one another. They’ve undergone a lot of changes, including the hiring of a new head coach, trading for superstar Damian Lillard and seeing their lead assistant coach resign one week before the start of the regular season.
That’s led to a somewhat rocky start for the Bucks. Defensively, they’ve been a mess. They’re giving up a ton of good looks at the rim, something they rarely did under previous head coach Mike Budenholzer. They’re also struggling to generate turnovers like new head coach Adrian Griffin wants, rebound, and get out in transition.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ defense received all of the attention, as the Bucks Film Room podcast breaks down what they saw last week.
Through all of the turmoil, however, the Bucks ended Week 2 with a winning record at 3-2 and went 2-1 last week. That shows the team’s resilience and how high their ceiling is when they finally put it together.
The Bucks Film Room podcast took a look at everything defense that we saw last week. That includes the implementation of the drop coverage against the Knicks, the lack of perimeter defense that has led to easy shots at the rim for their opponents, and how they used Giannis Antetokounmpo as an on-ball defender.
We also look at the NBA In-Season Tournament, where the Bucks won their first game against the Knicks. I’ll explain how that all works, as well as look forward to a busy week where the Bucks have four games.
